It’ll take you around 3 hours and 30mins to complete. Only 3.6km from Rotorua, this track is full of amazing huge Redwood trees that are over 100 years old. The park is made up of 288 hectares with well over 100km of walkways.

At the info centre pick up a map. The multi coloured track marker posts are just to the right of the main door. Follow the marker posts, across a small thermal pool and thought the redwoods. Keep an eye out to the right for the next sign. This track leads off into native bush.

Turn to the left.  A short walk on a grit track. This little section can get quite slippery when wet.

There are a few steps and an uphill section to walk, but don’t worry it’s not too hard.

The green track runs off to the left, you go up to the right.

Follow the marker posts.  This is a short climb to the next road.  Turn left onto Tokorangi Pa Rd and follow this gravel road to the next turnoff.

Turn hard left onto an old looking road. It starts to run down hill a little and around the side of the ridge.

Turn hard left again. Follow the marker posts.  Again enjoy the walk. There is one good uphill walk but it is a short one.

There are good views of Rotorua along this track. And great places to sit and enjoy the sounds of the bush, if the sun is out, try a little meditation.

Turn to the left.  This turn-off is back onto Tokorangi Pa Rd. The forestry has put a bench seat there for you to catch your breath.  Almost there, from here it is downhill most of the way.

The last 300m can be a bit slippery after a few hours of rain. At the water tank, you can stop for lunch or turn left onto the main road and walk back to the turn-off into the Redwood park 1.9 km.

1 hour 35 minutes, 4.6 km. Walk around to the front of the water tank. Over to the right is the start of the next leg. There is a sign to the left of the track. Walk down to the creek, up the other side to the next road.

Turn right onto Red Tank Rd, follow this road, and keep an eye out for the next marker posts on the right.

Back into the bush, this track follows the creek down the valley. You will have to cross the creek twice, again if there has been no rain for a day or two, it will be dry feet crossing.

Now you will walk onto a tricky fork in the track. It is like a high and low road track. There is a bridge on the far right, don’t go there. The low road will take you along the creek edge; this is ok if the creek is low. Otherwise, take the high track.

No matter what track you take you will walk out onto the main road, about 3 minutes. Turn to the right.

Now follow this gravel road to the next marker at Spruce Rd.  This marker is out in the open on the right. You can just see out to Nursery Road in the distance. At this turn off, go to the right.

This walk goes back up into the bush, then uphill and meets up with a short track, turn right this leads to Katore Rd and past the wastewater pump station. And onto Nursery Rd.

From here turn right, the marker post is on the far side of the road. Follow Nursery Rd again walking past Tokorangi Pa Rd, onto Long Mile Rd and back to your car.
