You will immediately find yourself immersed in thick forest. After only 10 minutes, the forest opens onto a wooden footpath with views of Marian Falls. The series of waterfalls cascade down the creek. Follow the path along the creek to continue towards Lake Marian.
After “the Gantry,” the wooden footpath, the rest of the track is a deep forest walk which is meant for experienced trampers only. The track involves climbing around trees and rocks, all alongside the rushing creek.
Along the way, you will find views of the mountains which loom nearby and the terrain will become less dense as you enter alpine scrublands instead. Once you reach the lake, you will be rewarded with more mountains and, if you are lucky to find yourself there on a still day, you will see the mountains reflected in the blue waters of Lake Marian.
If you don’t mind the water being a little cold, pack your bathing suit with you! It is popular to take a dip in the lake in warmer months.
