Cross the bridge with the boulder and continue until you reach the intersection with Quarry Road.
Here you will see that there are two tracks to choose from. You can either start with one direction and loop back with the other track, or simply pick one of two tracks and return the same way.
The upper track is slightly more challenging as it is a rugged climb and steeper than the lower track. It is also on the upper track that you may encounter mountain bikers.
If you choose the lower track, there is also the option to join the upper track along the way. It is a short incline. So, though there are technically only 2 tracks, there are still several different ways to combine them.
The tracks run on either side of the Otipua Creek and Lake. The creek and lake, too, offer a variety of activities to choose from such as picnics, BBQs and kayaking. There is a even a play area for children.
After passing the lake on the lower track, walk along the old railway line that was used by the quarries.
You can also find a full map of the location and track on the Timaru District Council website.
