Glen Eden Bush and Stream Walk

Glen Eden has undergone stream restoration and cycleways development as part of the Twin Streams Project, so we set out for an exploratory walk to see what we could uncover.

We started off at Ceramco Park, but if you are arriving by train, you could take the Upper Waikumete Walk and Cycleway starting from the corner of Captain Scott Road and West Coast Road, turn right into Savoy Road to continue to Ceramco Park.

We followed the Waikumete Stream, footpaths, walkways and tracks through native bush and wetlands, over bridges and along pleasant residential streets, making this an enjoyable short urban bush walk.

Track Quality:	Mainly flat with one steep road
Difficulty:	Suitable for most ages and levels of fitness and mobility, designed with flat shoes or running shoes in mind
Buggies/Wheelchairs:	Suitable for pushchairs
Dog Friendly:	Dogs – Off leash exercise areas within reserves and parks
Highlights:	Waikumete Creek, wetlands, native bush, kauri trees.

This project began in 2011. My friend Grace was the walk creator – with her knowledge of Auckland, she could “see” circular routes, and then it was up to me to map out, photograph, research and document the routes. At first, I relied upon my voice recorder and Google maps but then with the advancement of technology, the smart phone became a best friend and I was able to track our route. The best fun was when we were both pleasantly surprised by what there was to see. Beautiful wetlands, views and bush kept us inspired to explore more.
