Explore the Bay of Islands on Foot: Stunning Walks for All Levels

The Bay of Islands has a great variety of walking tracks to suit all fitness levels. For a relaxed stroll, I recommend exploring Moturua Island Loop. This short track on Moturua Island offers stunning coastal views and takes roughly 45 minutes to complete. You’ll love, both Roberton Island and Urupukapuka Island which provide excellent options. Roberton Island has a short walk to the lookout platform for totally stunning views, a must see.

Urupukapuka Island has a network of walks, ranging from the easy Otehei Loop Track to the challenging circumnavigation track, which takes approximately 5 hours. You can book a half day ferry ticket to Otehei Bay where most of these walks start.

The best time to experience the Bay of Islands walks is during the autumn months (March to May) and spring months (September to November) when the weather is mild and pleasant. Although I went there in February and the weather was perfect, not too hot with plenty of swimming.
