If you’re short on time and still want to see a bit of native bush on Great Barrier Island then this is the perfect walk. It’s a bit of an uphill climb for the first 5 mins, but after that it was easy going.

It’s a one way track which joins up with the main road again, just walk back along the road or carry on for a bit of a stroll. You can’t go far, the views are quite nice though along the road further.

Port Fitzroy general shop on Great Barrier Island

You might get to see Tui’s flying around and the occasional Fantail. The walk started half way between Port Fitzory jetty and the only general shop. It was a busy time of the year with boaties coming and going to stock up on supplies. The shop isn’t cheap as you can imagine, but the ice-creams are worth it on a hot summer’s day.

If you’re keen on a longer walk from Port Fitzroy then head past the shop to the Glenfern Loop Track, it’s got amazing views of the inlet.
