This walk is a flat, well-made, sealed path with great options for detours and "off-road" sections.
You can enter the Kopurererua Valley walkway via the following places: Birch Ave, Koromiko St, 16th and 17th ave, Laurence St, Laurence St North, Faulkner St, Grassmere Way, Cambridge Rd via BMX park, Watling St, Westridge Dr, Marshall ave, the Lakes roundabout.
When walking from 17th Ave to the lakes, the track starts out as a long stretch of boardwalk, which is then replaced with a well-graded gravel track.
When you reach the junction with Faulkner St, you can walk on gravel (straight ahead toward the bridge) or Tar-seal (right across another bridge). I recommend taking the right-hand turn towards the sealed path. This path is a looong nearly dead straight path that follows the valley floor from the inlet to The Lakes. This track takes you right up the artificial stream on your left, which is beautiful to walk by.
This walk is great for dogs as the track is wide and easy to share with cyclists plus, if your fur baby loves the water, this is very appropriate.
Roughly two-thirds of the way up the valley,
you will come to a right-hand turn-off to a pā site up a small mound. I highly recommend this 10-minute detour as it offers great views of where you are walking. It’s also a good cardio hit if you’re looking for a short and sharp workout.
Once back on the main track, you will follow the stream for another 1.5 km before reaching The Lakes shopping centre.
Overall, this walk is great for a family outing
Get some exercise with the dog, or maybe just by yourself. Whoever you end up walking this great walkway with, you’ll have a great time as it’s possibly the nicest track in Tauranga city, plus it’s very mellow and enjoyable.
