4.50 km • 1 Hour 30 Minutes • Very Easy • The Blue Lake walk is 11 km drive from central Rotorua. There is plenty of parking along the Blue Lake waterfront.
18 km • 2 Hours 15 Minutes • Medium • A haven for mountain bikers, the Whakarewarewa Forest, also referred to as The Redwoods, boasts an amazing network of over 200km of trails. This world-renowned venue caters to a wide range of skill levels, from beginner to advanced riders.

11 km • 3 Hours 30 minutes • Easy • Best walk in Whirinaki Forest, it follows the river through an amazing forest.
2.3 km • 1 hour • Easy • Walk around the edge of Lake Okaro, it’s wheelchair friendly in parts.
11.5 km • 3 Hours 30 Minutes • Easy • This is one of the longer walks in the Redwoods in Rotorua.

7.7 km in a loop • 2.5 hours • Medium • There are a lot of ups and downs with stairs, but the beaches and Matiatia Owhanake coastal views are awesome.
1.2 km • 30 minutes loop • Medium • There is a bit of a steep uphill climb to Tungutu lookout but well worth the effort.
1.9 km • 30 minutes return • Easy • Located at Mansion House Bay this is a short walk out to the point and back.
2.3 km • 45 mins loop • medium • Located at Port Fitzroy it’s a short walk to the start of Warren’s Waterfall Walk.

Old Lady Lookout at Port Fitzroy is worth the hike for the amazing views.
1.5 km return • 20 Minutes one way • Medium • The full walk is to the bottom of the waterfall, or take the easy 10 min walk to the first lookout at the top of the Bridal Veil Falls
19.7 km • 7 hours • Hard • The Tongariro Crossing is one of the Great Walks in NZ and a long day walk.
Long Bay Regional Park is situated on the northeast coast of Auckland and is one of the cities most popular destinations for walking.
5.80 kms • 2.5 Hours • Medium • Make a day of your time at Long Bay Reserve and complete the Coastal Track. This is pleasant and spectacular.
3.9 km • 1 Hour • Easy Loop Walk • Time for an out-of-Auckland walk. The Martha Goldmine Pit Rim Walkway in Waihi is an interesting one hour walk.
As much as I enjoy going for walks in Auckland, it is also refreshing to head out of town.
Recently a friend enquired about doing walks in Auckland with young children who like to ride bikes and scooters.
There are many outdoor activities and things to do in Auckland, and I would like to share with you one thing that won’t cost you too much money and won’t take up too much of your time – and thats by going on one our short walks in Auckland!
If you have been out walking around Auckland with your family as you have been growing up, being set free to go walking on your own will seem natural.
Winter in Auckland can be very wet and sometimes very cold. So to lift your spirits we have listed suggested walks where you can enjoy the signs of spring in Auckland.
December is a beautiful time of year to get out walking when hopefully the weather starts becoming more stable and before it gets too hot.

3 km • 45 mins • Easy • Start at Meadowbank Rd/Train station and walk in either direction around Orakei Basin. Lovely wide track with big boardwalks and through a bit of shady bush. Dogs on a lead.

9 km • 1 hour 40 minutes • Very Easy • The Wallis Wharf to Lily Street Loop Walk begins its at the wharf and boat ramp located near The Silos in Raglan.
Auckland’s terrain is mainly hilly so it can be difficult to find flat walks that are buggy and pram friendly. Here is my list of walks in Auckland for prams or buggies.

11.70 kms • 4 Hours • Easy • Rangitoto Island is an amazing day out in Auckland. Arrive by ferry or private boat and explore. The 360-degree views of Auckland and the Hauraki Gulf from the summit are spectacular.
5 km • 1.5 hours • Easy. This walk takes you along the rim of the Tuff Crater, a great short walk in Auckland.
9 kms • 3 Hours • Medium • This combines two Hunua Tracks, the Cossey Gorge Track, and the Massey Track
3.5 km • 1 Hour • Steep start up the hill, easy after that • Great short day walk in Mahurangi West over farmland and beaches with great views along the way
7 km • 1 hour 30 mins • Easy • It was great to see so many people, with their children and their dogs, out enjoying walking today at Western Springs and Meola Reef.
