Starting Point
I absolutely love the Point Chevalier Beach and Coyle Park Loop Walk – it’s one of my favourite spots in Auckland! Let me tell you about my ideal way to do this walk. I usually start at Pt Chev Beach where there’s plenty of parking, and I love how the wide sandy beach stretches out in front of you. If you time it right with low tide, you can walk way out on the sand flats which is pretty special. The views across to the Waitakeres are stunning too.
The Journey to Coyle Park
As you wander along, you’ll end up at Coyle Park which sits up on this lovely headland. I often stop here to catch my breath (not that you need to – it’s a pretty easy walk!) and take in the amazing harbour views. You can spot the Harbor Bridge, Skytower and Rangitoto Island from up there. The huge pohutukawa trees are gorgeous, especially in summer when they’re covered in red blooms. I enjoy finding a shady spot under them for a quick break.
Walk Details
The whole loop only takes me about 30-45 minutes at a cruisy pace. It’s such an easy walk – mostly flat except for a few gentle slopes around Coyle Park. You can’t really go wrong with the path either – it’s well maintained with both paved bits and beach walking.
Amenities
If you’re bringing kids along (or you’re a big kid at heart), there’s a fun playground at Coyle Park. You’ll also find toilets and changing rooms if you need them, plus plenty of benches to rest and take in those views.
Local Tips
One tip from me – check the tide times before you head out. The beach part is way more fun at low tide when you can really explore. You can start from either end too – there’s parking at both Pt Chev Beach and Coyle Park.
The Experience
It’s become my go-to spot for a quick escape, whether I want some exercise or just need to clear my head with some fresh air and beautiful views. You’ll probably spot lots of locals walking their dogs or families out for a stroll – it’s that kind of place!
