The skies were blue and the water still in the harbour, with just a little mist left around the edges. I had not explored Northcote Point before (it would have been a fine vantage point for the previous night’s fireworks display).
Quick facts about this walk
The Hobbiton Movie Set Day Tour - From Auckland
We had not prepared a route – it was a discovery walk and we were well rewarded. Views of Auckland City. Dwarfed by the pylons of the Auckland Harbour Bridge. A new-found path along the motorway. And an interesting mix of old and new residential homes. Plus children’s playgrounds as a reward for children. All made for a fun walk.
Clarence Rd Eatery is a local favourite in Northcote Point along this walk. Next to the iconic Bridgeway Theatre, and with ample parking. They offer Allpress coffee, hand-made breakfast, brunch and lunch menus 7 days a week, and bistro-style dining Wednesday to Sunday evenings.

What about a series of auckland walks to cover every volcanic cone …??
Hi Phil, yes great suggestion and that’s already on my to do list. Hopefully won’t take too long to do.
Thanks, Sandra
Our U3A Long Walking Group is looking for walks of about three hours either in Auckland suburbs or within an hour’s drive of Auckland. Of course we have done many of them but are wondering if you have any new suggestions.
Hi, that’s a tough question. Most of the walks in Auckland I have on the site are around and hour. The bigger walks in the Waitakere’s are still closed. Here is the Coast to Coast Walk but it’s a bit longer. You may have already done it, take a look here: https://www.freewalks.nz/coast-coast-walk/
Hope that helps.
