Short track down to Lonely Bay beach, a small but nice beach with fewer people than many beaches in the area.

Short 5-10 minute steep walk in Shakespeare Cliff Reserve from the track car park down to Lonely Bay Beach. Lots of steps. Track reasonably well maintained with a few issues on certain steps but a good track overall. Small, beautiful, less crowded beach with lots of Pohutukawa trees. Note that there are a number of tracks here in the Shakespeare Scenic Reserve including tracks to the Whitianga ferry, Cooks Beach and the Cliff overlook.

Driving Instructions

Take the Cooks Beach/Hahei turnoff from State Highway 25 at Whenuakite and follow the signs to Cooks Beach. Drive past Cooks Beach on Purangi road toward Flaxmill Bay and the Whitianga Ferry. Turn right at the end of Cooks Beach up a steep, gravel road to the Shakespeare Scenic and Historic Reserve. Car park for the Beach is on the right near the top of the road. Continue to the top for the Shakespear Cliff overlook and addoitional walking tracks.
